Walker Memorial Service

June 3 @ 5:45 pm - 7:45 pm

The Scout/Scouter Memorial Service is held each year to honor the memory of Ronald E. Walker and to recognize all recently departed members of the Heart of New England Council Scouting community.

All units from the Heart of New England Council are invited to attend with a color guard.

Please email kelly.stickney@scouting.org by May 19, 2023 with the names of the Scouts and Scouters who have passed away since last year’s Memorial Service that you would like to be memorialized.

5:45PM Arrival / 6:00PM Ceremony / Cracker Barrel to follow

Ron had been active in Troop 128, chartered to St. Joseph’s Church in North Brookfield. Because both father and son shared a love for Scouting, and because Scouting had brought them so close to one another, the idea for “Living Memorial to Scouting” was born. With Mr. Walker providing the design and supervision, construction started in late 1969. The Garden was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 25, 1970. Each year, the Heart of New England Council, Boy Scouts of America gathers on the Saturday after Memorial Day to honor the departed members of the Scouting community.

The life-sized statue of the Boy Scout was carved in Vermont. It represents all members of the Scouting movement – past, present and future. Through the generosity of Mr. Walker, perpetual maintenance of the Memorial Garden is assured.
