Leave No Trace Master Educator Course 2024

What are the details/information you want to communicate?: This course (split over two weekends) trains Scouts and Scouters ages 18 and up to serve as  Leave No Trace Master Educators. Master Educators can conduct Leave No Trace Trainer courses (two-day) and awareness workshops (one-day or shorter).

This invaluable training is recognized and highly regarded throughout the world, especially by the outdoor industry, as well as public and private land management agencies. Successful graduates are certified to train others in Leave No Trace skills and ethics. The Master Educator Course provides participants with a comprehensive training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics through practical application in a field-based setting. The first weekend is a mix of classroom and outdoor instruction, introducing the course and schedule, providing in-depth information on the overall Leave No Trace program, how to conduct training courses, and the science behind the Leave No Trace principles. During the second weekend we’ll do primitive camping along with hikes each day to explore impacted campsites and trails in Mount Monadnock State Park.

This course is staffed with highly experienced scouting volunteers who are nationally recognized Master Educator Instructors. Participants will learn Leave No Trace techniques through skits, discussions, and hands-on activities. To practice Leave No Trace teaching strategies in a supportive, educational environment, each participant will present a short session or activity focused on the Leave No Trace principles or related topic.

The course costs $325 (before October 31 2023) and $375 (November 1, 2023 to March  31 2024). This includes facilities fees, meals for both weekends, educational materials, LNT Center for Outdoor Ethics Master Educator registration fee, Leave No Trace Master Educator card from BSA, BSA Leave No Trace Master Educator Handbook, Leave No Trace Master Educator patch and lapel and other materials. Participants are also eligible for discounts on Leave No Trace items.
